Overheard a guy at the lumber yard say something about my measuring tape that stung

I was grabbing some 1x4 poplar for a face frame and this older cabinetmaker looked at my tape and said "you trust that thing?" I checked it against a ruler and my hook was 1/16 off from getting bent. Never even crossed my mind to check it after all these years. Any of you guys ever find a tape that's out of whack from a drop?

Burnt my chicken wings 3 times in a row, then my sister dropped a truth bomb

I was complaining about how my wings kept coming out dry even after trying different temps and times. She just looked at me and said "you're crowding the basket, genius." Ever had someone say something so obvious it made you feel like an idiot?

The morning the sump pump quit during that derecho in Iowa

I was in my basement in Des Moines during that storm last June, water rising fast, and the backup battery was dead from a power flicker the day before. Had to bail 40 gallons by hand with a bucket while yelling at my wife to grab the shop vac. Anyone else have a backup system fail at the worst possible time?

My kitchen knife rolled off the counter and landed blade-up on my bare foot five months ago and now I always tell people to get a magnetic strip instead of a block.

I was in my own kitchen in Phoenix grabbing a towel and the whole block tipped over, the chef knife bounced out, and it stuck straight into the side of my foot right between the bones - $400 ER visit and three stitches later I still have a numb spot, has anyone else had a block fail on them like that?

Dropped $400 on a Fluke meter and it failed me within 3 months

Had this 1587 FC blow a fuse taking readings on a commercial dryer in Phoenix, and the replacement fuse cost me more than my old Klein setup. Anyone else ditch the fancy stuff and go back to simpler meters?

Hot take: The Wire is overrated and I'm tired of pretending it's not

I got into an argument with my buddy Dave at the coffee shop last week when he said The Wire is the greatest show ever made. I watched the whole first season and honestly found it slow and the dialogue felt super dated. Does anyone else think some of these 'classic' shows just don't hold up anymore?

That $200 hot comb I bought from a salon supplier in Denver was a total ripoff

Everyone raves about those fancy ceramic hot combs for pressing hair, but mine started denting after 3 uses and the heat was super uneven. Cost me $200 at a trade show and I got better results from a $30 marcel iron I picked up at a beauty supply. Has anyone else had luck with cheaper options that actually work?

Stayed up until 3am chasing a missing semicolon in my Python script and found 4 other bugs along the way

I was working on my first calculator program at my kitchen table last night, forgot a semicolon in line 47, and after an hour of staring at it I finally found it hidden in a messy indent pattern, so now I'm wondering does anyone else get lost in small errors like that or do you just start fresh?

Showerthought: I was making my bed wrong for years and only found out from a hotel housekeeper

I always just pulled the flat sheet up and tucked it in, thinking that was fine. Last month, I stayed at a hotel in Austin and watched the housekeeper make the room next door. She did this thing where she folded the top of the sheet over the blanket to make a clean edge. I asked her about it, and she said it keeps everything neat and stops the blanket from touching your face. I tried it at home and my bed looks way better now. Has anyone else learned a simple home trick from watching a pro?

The night I drove to Joshua Tree for the Perseids and got a flat tire

Had everything set up perfectly for the peak, my camera on a new star tracker I rented. A rock on the dirt road popped my tire right as the first meteor streaked across the sky. Spent the next hour changing it under my headlights instead of shooting. Anyone have a good story about an astronomy trip that went sideways?
