Just realized copy pasting from Stack Overflow was slowing me down, a guy on Discord called me out
For my first 3 months I grabbed every snippet I could find and spent hours untangling code I didn't understand, until someone asked me to explain it line by line and I couldn't. Now I retype everything by hand and break it on purpose, but does anyone else feel like they're cheating when they look stuff up?
Saw a video from some guy who teaches coding and he said the lookup itself is not the problem. The problem is pasting stuff you never read. That hit home. Retyping by hand forces your brain to actually process each line, which is why it sticks. Breaking it on purpose is smart too because you learn what each piece really does. Looking stuff up is normal, even people with 10 years in still do it every day.
