I always figured the broker was the one hauling it, but after my car sat in a lot in Barstow for 4 days I started digging and found out the company you pay often just hands it off to whoever bids cheapest. The dispatcher even admitted most folks never look up the DOT number before handing over keys. Has anyone else gotten burned by this or am I just the last one to figure it out?
Wait, 70 percent?? That can't be right, that seems way too high. I feel like most people at least glance at the paperwork before handing over their keys, but maybe I'm giving people too much credit. The Barstow part is what gets me though, four days just sitting in some random lot while nobody tells you anything has to be maddening. How did you finally track down the actual DOT number, was it on the bill of lading or did you have to call around?
