Appreciation post: My attempt to make a 3 ingredient smoothie turned into a kitchen science experiment

I blended frozen spinach, a banana, and orange juice for a quick breakfast, but the color turned into a shade of brownish-green that looked exactly like pond water, which taught me that color theory is a real thing even with food, so has anyone else had a simple mix go horribly wrong visually?

Everyone says to never use a climbing line for rigging, but it saved a job for me.

We had a huge maple removal in a tight backyard in Springfield, and the rigging line got a core shot halfway through. I was stuck with just my climbing line, a 200-foot Poison Ivy. I tied a running bowline and used it to lower the last three big limbs, keeping the pull angles super tight to the trunk. It held fine and we finished on time. Has anyone else been in a spot where they had to use gear for something it's not made for?

Had a shoe come off a draft horse in the middle of a trim last Tuesday and had to improvise with a hoof pick and some baling twine from the barn to keep him comfortable until I could get back with my truck.

What's your go-to quick fix when you're caught without a full kit on a farm call?

I always thought a knee kicker was fine for stairs until I saw the failure rate numbers

I was watching a training video from the CFI last night and they said over 60% of callbacks for loose carpet are on stair jobs done with just a kicker. The guy said a power stretcher is non-negotiable for proper tension on the nose of each step. I've been using my kicker on stairs for three years without a single complaint, but now I'm rethinking every install. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a real difference?

Watched a pitmaster's brisket go from dry to perfect in under a year after he switched to wrapping in butcher paper instead of foil.

He posted a video of his sad, crumbly slices from a competition last April, then another one yesterday showing a juicy, tender brisket, and the only thing he said he changed was ditching the foil wrap for pink butcher paper halfway through the cook.

Bought a 'refurbished' laptop from a local shop and it died in 2 months

Spent $350 at TechHaven in Springfield on a 'certified' refurbished laptop for my kid's schoolwork. It worked fine for about 8 weeks, then the motherboard just gave out completely. The shop's 30-day warranty was long gone, so I'm out the full amount. Anyone know a reliable place for actual budget computers that last?

Heard a guy at the scrap yard say he never quenches his own spring steel

I thought he was just being lazy or cheap, but he showed me a batch of leaf springs he'd annealed and normalized himself. He said he gets them from a specific supplier in Dayton who already heat treats them to a known spec, so he just forges and tempers. Tried it on a small knife project last week, and the edge held up way better than my usual guesswork. Has anyone else switched to using pre-treated steel for certain jobs?

Got caught without a backup light in the abandoned mall last night

My main flashlight died halfway through the lower level. I had my phone, but the battery was almost gone. I recalled the exact path to the exit from visiting with my mom when I was young. Using those old memories, I felt my way out, thinking about how loud and full this silent place used to be.
