I finally tried the 'sleep in a train station' hack and it was a total disaster
Last Tuesday in Berlin, I got in at 1 AM and figured I'd save on a hostel by just camping at the Hauptbahnhof until morning. Security kicked me out at 3 AM, and I ended up spending 65 euros on a taxi just to find a place that was open. The whole 'free night' cost me more than a booked bed would have. Has anyone else had a 'hack' totally backfire like that?

My cousin's 'life hack' for free parking got her a $120 ticket last month.

My own genius hack was trying to save money on a hotel by sleeping in my work van. Woke up at 4 AM because a sprinkler system was going off right next to my head. The "free" room came with a free, and very loud, alarm clock I did NOT ask for. Sometimes the cheap way out just slaps you in the face.

Oh man, that's rough. It reminds me of the time I tried the "hack" of using a bus station locker for long-term storage to avoid luggage fees. Came back a week later to find my stuff had been cleared out as abandoned property. Like @xena914's cousin, I learned some shortcuts just aren't worth the price. These clever ideas always seem to forget about basic rules and human beings doing their jobs.
