My old foreman told me to never use a generic OBD2 scanner on a modern diesel.

He said the generic codes are useless and you need the OEM software to see the real data. I ignored him once on a 2020 Duramax and spent three hours chasing a ghost code before I plugged in the GM software and found the actual problem in five minutes. Anyone else run into this with the newer trucks?

Wait, you ignored that advice on a 2020 Duramax?!

Consider the actual cost of following every piece of online advice. Some of those fixes are incredibly expensive and might not even be needed for your specific driving habits. You could be chasing a problem that doesn't exist for you.

Chasing a problem that doesn't exist is my new hobby. Last week I almost bought a $500 tuner because a forum said my truck needed "more pep." Forgetting I just drive it to the grocery store. What's the most pointless fix you almost fell for?
