Bought a 'refurbished' laptop from a local shop and it died in 2 months
Spent $350 at TechHaven in Springfield on a 'certified' refurbished laptop for my kid's schoolwork. It worked fine for about 8 weeks, then the motherboard just gave out completely. The shop's 30-day warranty was long gone, so I'm out the full amount. Anyone know a reliable place for actual budget computers that last?

Thirty days for a refurbished laptop is a joke.

But what's a fair warranty length then?

Totally agree with @jakeb25, a 30-day warranty is a total scam. I got burned the same way on a tablet last year. It was a "certified" refurb too, and the battery swelled up right after the warranty ended. These shops just slap a sticker on old junk and call it good. Makes you never want to trust a local repair place again.
