Hot towel routine changed after a regular asked for the cold version

For 12 years I did the classic hot towel wrap on every neck shave. Last month a guy in Austin asked for it cold, said the heat made his skin flare up. Now I always ask first, and I keep a stack in the fridge, cuts down on irritation complaints by a lot. Anyone else offer a cold option?

Straight razor vs safety razor for my own shave, no contest after 2 weeks

I finally gave straight razors a real shot for my morning shave, figured I owed it to my craft since I use one on clients all day. But after 2 weeks of nicks and a jawline that looked like a war zone, I grabbed my old safety razor and knocked it out in 4 minutes flat. The straight razor gives a closer shave sure, but the time and touch it takes just isnt worth it when Im rushing out the door at 6:30. Anyone else use a safety razor on themselves even though they push straights on customers?

Rant: My clipper blade gap took 4 hours to sort out this week

I bought a new set of clippers last Tuesday, and the fade was coming out patchy no matter what I did. Checked the blade tension, oiled it, cleaned it, still garbage. Rough Saturday where I messed up 3 haircuts in a row

This past Saturday was just a disaster from start to finish. First appointment was a kid who wouldn't sit still, and I ended up with a weird bald patch near his crown. Then a older guy wanted a skin fade but his hairline was all over the place, and I took off way too much on the left side. Spent 2 hours chasing a fade line that was actually a shadow from my overhead light

I was working on this kid's cut yesterday, kept seeing this weird line on the left side of his head. Must have gone over it with my trimmer 5 times, fading it out more each time. Finally my coworker came over and pointed out it was just the fluorescent bulb casting a shadow off his ear. Felt like an idiot standing there for 45 minutes fighting something that wasn't even real.
