inI used to think the old Manitowoc 4100W was a dinosaur, but seeing one at the Port of Tacoma changed my mind.
Remember my buddy who used to call them ugly scrap metal? He got a tour of the old dockyard and saw one up close, gears and everything. He came back saying they were actually kind of beautiful, just like you said, @gibson.elizabeth. Now he points them out like they're public art.

inI was reading an old trade catalog from the 80s and the price of a Campagnolo Super Record rear derailleur blew my mind
Spot the same thing with old electronics ads all the time (like VCRs costing a month's rent). It shows how making stuff on a huge scale, plus better tech, just crushes the price of what used to be luxury items. That derailleur was basically hand-made jewelry for bikes back then.

inRemember when we used to hand-dig every post hole? I had a week in '08 that changed my mind.
Clay is a nightmare. The auger probably saved your back from a lifetime of hurt.

inI stopped saying 'bless you' after sneezes for a month to see what would happen
Yeah that "looking for problems" line hits home. Feels like we're all just waiting for someone to break a tiny rule so we can point it out. Makes simple stuff way too heavy.
