Changed my mind about painting over chipped baseboards after 3 years

I used to always just slap a fresh coat of paint over chipped baseboards. It looked fine for a month or so but the chips always came back. Last week at my duplex in Austin, a tenant sent me a photo of a huge chunk missing and I finally grabbed some wood filler. Filled it, sanded it smooth, then painted. Took an extra 20 minutes per room but the finish actually looks new now. Anyone else have a repair trick they ignored for way too long?

It was some guy named Bob from a show nobody under 60 remembers. I regifted it to my neighbor who actually thought it was a tribute to his lawn ornament collection.

My buddy's cancel culture advice backfired hard on Facebook

This guy I knew from high school told me to just delete any angry comment and block the person. Ngl I followed his advice for like 3 days on a post about local politics. Turns out ignoring people made them post screenshots of our old comments and tag a bunch of local news pages. Honestly that move made things way worse than just talking it out would have. Has anyone else had a friend's "strategy" blow up in their face like that?

Vent: Stop using zip ties on network cables. Velcro is cheaper in the long run.

I was helping a buddy redo his home rack last Saturday and spent an hour cutting zipties off a patch panel. Those plastic straps wreck the cable jacket over time and you cant add or move a single wire without clippers. A 100 pack of velcro strips costs like 8 bucks at Home Depot and you can reuse them a dozen times. Has anyone else had to dig out a ziptie clean up session from a previous owner?

That $60 bone folder I got was money way better spent than the $10 plastic one

Picked up a cheap plastic bone folder when I started binding and it snapped clean in half on a tight fold after about 3 months. Finally grabbed a proper polished cow bone one from a craft shop for $60 and it's been solid for over a year now. Anyone else have a specific tool they wish they'd upgraded sooner?

Went to a bike co-op in Portland and watched a dude true a wheel with zip ties

I have always been a 'buy the right tool' guy. Spent like $40 on a Park Tool truing stand years ago and swore by it. Yesterday I stopped into this community shop in southeast PDX to grab some used tires and this volunteer mechanic had a wheel mounted in the frame using zip ties as feeler gauges. He had the thing spinning dead straight in like 10 minutes. Made me realize I have been overcomplicating this whole thing. Has anyone else had a moment where you saw a hack that made your expensive gear feel silly?

My apprentice in Cheyenne insisted on using a new rasp he saw online, and it slipped on a quarter crack, nicking the horse's heel.

I had him switch back to our old reliable file, clean the small cut with saline, and we finished the job with a cold compress on the leg, but has anyone else had a tool fail because of a weird coating?

My buddy in Denver told me my pour over method was way too fast

He pointed out I was finishing a 12 ounce brew in under 2 minutes, which was making it taste sour. I slowed it down to a full 3 minutes and 30 seconds, and the difference in flavor was huge. Anyone else get called out on their brew time and have to adjust?
