Compared two different ways to sharpen my kitchen knives and one method won by a mile

My first time on a whetstone I ended up with a knife shaped like a banana because I couldn't keep the angle steady. At least my tomato can now be cut by a curved blade. Still better than that pull-through garbage though.

Dismissed a field report about fluted points in Ohio farmland until I dug one up myself near Chillicothe River last fall

Totally agree with you @eva908. My cousin found a roman coin in his backyard just from digging up an old tree stump. The local museum said it was legit and they even put it on display. It really shows how regular folks can stumble onto history like that.

Just learned my smart TV listens to me 24/7 for targeted ads

...and that's exactly what my roommate said until his phone started showing him ads for frozen pizza after he complained about freezer burn. Look, I'm not saying the TV is secretly recording everything for the CIA or anything like that. But I found a similar setting on my Roku last week and it had already stored voice samples from three days ago, including me telling my cat to stop knocking things off the counter. The part that got me was when I looked up how to disable it completely, the instructions said I had to agree to a separate data collection agreement just to turn it off. So either they're really bad at explaining their features or there's something fishy going on. I ended up just unplugging the TV and using my laptop for streaming because that whole thing rubbed me the wrong way. Your mileage may vary, but I'd rather watch ads the normal way than have my living room be a focus group.

Tried the 50/30/20 rule for 6 months, thought it was too simple to work

You saved $1,400 big whoop.

Why does nobody mention how long a cast iron pan takes to actually heat up?

Oh for sure, I'd put the pan on high and wonder why everything burned until I learned the low and slow trick.
