Warning: my $40 'waterproof' boot spray ruined 3 pairs of work shoes
Last fall I bought this silicone spray everyone swore by for keeping boots dry. After one coat on my Red Wings and two cheap pairs, the leather went stiff and cracked around the toes within 2 weeks. Turns out silicone seals out water but also traps moisture inside, which rots the stitching from the inside out. Anyone else learn this the hard way, or is there a wax or oil that actually protects without wrecking the leather?

Red Wings are too pricey to test sprays on blind, what did the leather guy tell you?
