6 months of skepticism about Blumotion soft close finally ended yesterday

I built a set of 12 shaker doors for a kitchen job in Evanston and put Blumotion on all of them. Honestly thought it was overpriced hype and my old magnetic catches were fine. Then I watched a client's kid slam one door and it just floated shut. Went back and ordered 30 more sets that same afternoon. Anyone else hold out on a product forever and then get converted fast?

My uncle swore a penny would fix my rattling dryer for good

He told me to tape a penny to the top panel to balance the drum. Worked like a charm for about 2 loads, then the penny flew off and dented my laundry room wall. Has anyone else tried a makeshift fix that backfired this bad?

Why does nobody talk about how much sediment a river can carry in one flood event?

I was looking up specs for a job on the Mississippi near Baton Rouge (just out of curiosity) and stumbled on a USGS report saying a single spring flood can move over 200 million tons of sediment downriver. That blew my mind because we only ever worry about our cutterheads getting clogged or the pump losing vacuum from sand buildup. Has anyone else ever factored major flood events into their dredge planning or is it just something you roll with?

Switched to a fish spatula after 8 years and it changed my whole saute game

I spent years fighting with a solid metal turner on the flat top at my spot in Portland. Last month this old line cook from New Orleans watched me struggle flipping eggs and said dude just get a fish spatula. I grabbed one for like 12 bucks at the restaurant supply store and I swear it made my breakfast station 3x faster in one shift. Anyone else have that one kitchen tool they refused to try for way too long?

Swapped from a torque wrench to feel for bottom brackets after 6 months of stripping aluminum frames

I used to torque every single BB to spec like the manual said. But I kept seeing threads strip on cheaper alloy frames, especially with the higher torque numbers on Shimano units. Last March I started just going by hand feel, snug plus a quarter turn. Has not caused a single creak yet and I have done maybe 40 swaps since. Anyone else trust their hands over the click?

Still think that law about no ice cream in your back pocket on Sunday is just a joke? I call BS on that being real.

I keep seeing people bring up that silly law from Idaho about ice cream in your back pocket on a Sunday, and it drives me nuts because it never existed. I actually looked it up on the Idaho state legislature site last year, and the closest thing is a 1920s ordinance in Boise about selling frozen treats after 6 PM, not pocket storage. Why do folks keep repeating this false story as if checking the source is too much work? Has anyone here actually verified one of these 'dumb laws' they post?

That $200 car detailing package I bought on a whim

I paid a guy $200 to detail my truck and he literally used a dirty rag that left swirl marks all over the hood. Took me three hours with my own microfiber cloths to fix what he did. Anyone else had a detailing job that was worse than doing it yourself?

Hit 500 sourdough starters and stopped counting

I keep a log of every starter I make for the bakery. Last Wednesday I was flipping through the notebook and saw I hit 500 back in March. Didn't even notice because I stopped paying attention around 300. Each one takes about 10 minutes to mix and feed over a week before it's ready for the oven. How do you guys track your starter batches or do you just eyeball it?
