Finally paid off my 2017 sedan after 6 years, then the AC died the same week

I mean, it felt good to make that last payment on my Corolla in Tulsa. Then three days later the compressor started making this grinding noise and the air went warm. Shop quoted me $740 to fix it, which is basically what I had saved for brakes and tires. I ended up borrowing a buddy's manifold gauge set and watching a 20 minute video, swapped the compressor myself in my driveway over a weekend. It took me two days and one busted knuckle, but I only spent $210 on parts. Has anyone else had a big 'I'm finally ahead' moment that immediately got slapped down?

Spend the $740 and call it a lesson, cause that DIY fix usually ends up costing you double when something else breaks down the line. Peace of mind from a shop warranty beats busted knuckles any day.
