Stopped at a rest area outside Flagstaff and saw the vending machine prices

The snack machine had a bag of chips for $4.75. A soda was over three dollars. I know it's a captive market, but that's more than double the price at a grocery store a few miles down the road. It's a quick way to blow your per diem. Anyone know a good spot to stock up cheap along I-40 in that area?

Can we talk about guys skipping the magnesium float step on interior slabs?

I keep seeing crews in Phoenix go straight from the bull float to the trowel, especially on garage floors. That extra pass with the mag really helps close up the surface and stops that dusty top layer from forming later. I learned that from a foreman named Ray about five years ago and it's saved me a ton of callbacks for surface scaling. Anyone else notice this or am I just being picky?

Remember when we all thought you had to preheat the air fryer for everything?

I was burning the outside of my chicken thighs for a year before I saw a comment on a blog saying to skip the preheat for thicker, bone-in cuts. Tried it last night and the inside was actually cooked through without the skin turning to charcoal. Anyone else find a specific 'rule' that was actually holding you back?

The week our entire office lost power right before a deadline

Last Thursday, a transformer blew two blocks over and knocked out our whole building for six hours. I had three sets of permit drawings for a Phoenix job due by 5 PM, and my UPS only gave me 45 minutes. I had to drive across town to a friend's firm, beg for a workstation, and rebuild two hours of lost work from memory (and some very old paper sketches). Has anyone else had a close call like this, and what's your backup plan now?

Question about the 10,000 brick mark on a single project

I just finished laying brick number 10,001 on a big apartment job in Cincinnati, and it hit me hard. Some guys say hitting a number like that is just a job, but for me it meant I'd built a whole building's skin with my own hands. Others think counting is silly and the real win is just a clean wall at the end of the day. Which side are you on, do big round numbers on a project mean anything to you?

PSA: I dropped $500 on a 'career accelerator' course that was just repackaged YouTube videos.

The guy promised direct mentorship and a custom plan, but it was just a pre-recorded video library and a generic PDF. Anyone know a legit way to get actual one-on-one guidance without getting scammed?

Cleaned my 1,000th chimney yesterday and the owner gave me a trophy

It was a standard brick flue in a house over in Springfield, nothing special, but the guy had been counting my visits. He came out with this little plastic trophy that said 'Chimney Champ 1K' on it, lmao. Has anyone else ever gotten a weird gift from a customer after a job?

My brother in Tucson finally got me to see the moon landing thing differently

We were watching a documentary last Tuesday and he said, 'The real conspiracy is why we believe it had to be fake.' He pointed out that thousands of engineers and workers would have had to keep quiet for over 50 years. That specific number, and the sheer scale of the lie, made it click for me. It's way more likely it happened. Anyone else have a family member change their mind on a big theory?
