The back window on my Civic is covered in fingerprints from people trying to turn down my music
Nobody respects the volume knob but me. I play Biggie's "Juicy" at full send on I-95 near Baltimore and people act like their ears are gonna fall off. Here is the thing most folks get wrong. They think max volume is about the bass hitting hard. It is not. It is about hearing the piano loop under the vocals at the exact level the producer mixed it. I tested this over 30 drives in 2 months with the same song and the same speakers. Bass gets muddy past 34 on my dial but the high end stays clean all the way up. So I keep it at 38 and roll the bass down 2 notches. If your car shakes but you can't hear the words, you are doing it wrong. What song do you blast where the details actually survive the volume?
Ever ride with someone who spends 20 minutes tweaking the EQ before they even start the car? My buddy does that with his old Corolla. He pulls up the same three songs every time, some Steely Dan track and two others I can never remember, and he messes with the fade and balance like he's landing a plane. Drives me nuts but I get it now, because once he's done you can hear the little shaker in the back and the bass player's fingers sliding on the strings. That stuff disappears when you just crank it. So yeah, I hear you on the details thing. I just can't do the tweaking part, I'd rather set it once and drive.
