My "$0 date night" challenge actually made my relationship worse

Did you ever ask her what she actually wanted to do, or did you just decide free stuff was the only option? A walk in the park is fine sometimes but mixing in a $20 pizza place with a cheap bottle of wine shows you're still thinking about her, not just your wallet. The whole point isn't to spend nothing, it's to not go broke while still making her feel like you gave a damn. Budgeting is great, but don't let it turn you into a cheapskate who forgets that effort matters more than the dollar amount.

Finally got a solid panel install in a crawl space after years of dreading them

Support beams just add a little spice to the ride. A good creeper has enough momentum to bounce right off and keep going. Besides, a few bruises build character.

I finally understood why that old diver in Norfolk kept yelling at me about my drysuit valve

Did you leave his valve open the whole dive? Because that would explain the anger. Norfolk divers don't mess around with that stuff.

Vent: Overheard a manager talking about skipping wire checks on purpose

Oh wow, I gotta say something about this. The way you described it with spot-checking instead of full wire checks, that's actually a standard practice on some jobs but it sounds like they took it way too far. Spot checks are meant to be random but complete checks on a sample, not just skipping the rest 'cause you're in a hurry. I've seen guys run a continuity test on one bundle and call it done, but that is not the same as verifying every single connection for tension and routing. If they joked about saving 2 hours, they probably skipped a bunch of critical inspections like checking for chafing near sharp edges or making sure all the tie wraps are snug. That plane going out before you could flag it is a nightmare situation, really makes you wonder what else gets ignored when nobody is watching.

Comparison of sprinkler timers: old dial timer vs new smart timer, and the old one wins every time

Ugh hard disagree lol my smart timer saves me so much headache with scheduling zones and rain skip, plus I can tweak it from bed when I forget to water. Yours is definitely the exception, most wifi timers work great once you set them up right.
