Watching a documentary on the history of denim in Osaka totally flipped my view on pre-distressed jeans.

I used to think they were a lazy shortcut (you know, like buying pre-made pie crust), but seeing the insane, specific techniques they use to replicate decades of wear by hand in that film convinced me it's a real craft, so has anyone else had a style they hated that they now appreciate because of the work behind it?

It kills me to see ancient coastlines lost to erosion

In my experience, rising sea levels are wiping out untouched sites before we can even map them. Just last year, a promising old hunter-gatherer camp vanished overnight during a storm.

Heads up: My overbaked pie had strangers thinking my house was on fire

I was baking a pie last evening and completely lost track of time. It burned and filled my kitchen with thick smoke that went out the window. Two people passing by saw it and rushed over to warn me about a possible fire. I had to awkwardly explain it was just a baking mistake. So, always watch your oven closely to avoid this kind of scare.

I got into fermenting with a simple cloth tied over my jar. People always talk up airlocks, but my pickles come out crispy every time. Why spend cash on special tops?
