Just saw a collector at a con trying to press a book with a regular iron

For an affordable press, I found a small heat press on sale that works great for books.

I looked up the original text of a famous speech and the version we're taught is wrong

Totally, I read this article about how even simple things like folk songs change over time. People forget a verse or smooth out a weird lyric, and after a few decades the original meaning is just gone. It happens everywhere, not just with big historical events. Makes you wonder what else we've quietly corrected or simplified out of existence. What's something you've noticed that got polished away?

Finally got the hang of troubleshooting that intermittent VHF comm issue on the Citation fleet

Remember my buddy Dave who had the same headache on his King Air? He swore by that coax sealant tape, the kind that fuses into a solid rubber block. Wrapped it tight, then a layer of good quality electrical tape over the top. Seems like overkill but his fix held up for years, even through some nasty de-icing fluid. He said the key was cleaning the connector with contact cleaner until it was totally bone dry before wrapping anything.

Just spent 4 hours on a quarter crack that looked simple from the outside

Watched my buddy do that exact thing last summer on an old porch step. He got the thinnest metal ruler he could find and slid it in like you said. Thing went in a full three inches before it even slowed down. We ended up replacing the whole stringer.

My brother-in-law swore by using a 3/4 inch plywood subfloor, but my contractor friend said it was overkill for my old house in Portland.

Guess your brother-in-law won that round. A solid floor feels better long term than a bouncy one, right? That extra cost seems worth it now.
