That 'use a potato to remove a broken light bulb' trick cost me $150

Potatoes are for eating, not home repair. Did you at least turn the breaker off before trying that? Next time grab a pair of needle nose pliers with insulated handles, shut off the power, and gently twist the metal base out.

I used to think a 4-inch grinder was fine for everything on a boiler job...

Grab a speed square and lay it flat on the board. If you're just eyeballing from a photo, the camera lens can stretch things out. Been there, cut that piece wrong. Measure the actual face of the cut, not the long slanted edge. That's the only number that matters for your fit.

Unpopular opinion: I paid for a guided food tour in Lisbon and it was worth every penny

Totally get what you mean about the map thing, @logan205. But for me, the real win wasn't just finding food fast. It was the stories. Our guide explained why those little custard tarts, pasteis de nata, have that burnt top. It's from the old monasteries using up egg yolks. I would've just eaten one and moved on. Knowing that bit of history made it taste better, honestly. Changed the whole point of the tour for me.

A customer told me my booking confirmation emails were 'cold as a fish' and it made me rethink everything

You know, I used to think exactly like that. But that one comment got me. It made me realize my emails felt like they came from a robot, not a person running a real business. That first touch sets a tone for the whole customer experience. Adding a single friendly line doesn't add fluff, it adds a human touch. Now I see it as part of the service, not just a data sheet.

I bought a cheap plant ID app and it actually changed my whole hike

Honestly @faithwalker, sometimes a nice flower is just a nice flower... People get so worked up about what's native or invasive that they forget to just enjoy things. That Dame's Rocket makes whole ditches look like a purple fairy tale for a few weeks. If it grows well and looks pretty, maybe that's enough of a reason to let it be. Not every plant needs to pass some kind of ecological purity test.
