Unpopular opinion: That fancy co-working space in Austin was a total distraction

I visited this new co-working space downtown Austin last week, the one with the rooftop bar and free kombucha. It's got all these bells and whistles, like a podcast studio and a nap room. But I couldn't get any actual work done. Everyone was networking, taking calls loudly, or just hanging out. I spent $40 for a day pass and got maybe 2 hours of real focus. On the other hand, I know some people swear by those places for making connections and landing clients. So which is it for a career move? Is the vibe and networking worth the lost productivity, or should you just stick to a quiet library? Has anyone else found those fancy spaces more of a social scene than a real work spot?

Skip the fancy spaces if you need to focus. They're for networking, not deep work. I just use the library when I actually need to get stuff done.

Has anyone else ever tried working in a laundromat? There's this one near my place that's open late, and it's weirdly perfect. The dryers make this steady white noise, people mind their own business, and you can stretch out at a folding table with your laptop. Plus you leave with clean socks, which is a bonus.

Library's good for quiet. But the real secret is a 24 hour diner booth at 3am. No one bothers you. Just coffee refills and the hum of the grill. It's a different kind of focus.
