Spent 4 hours trying to fix a cake that kept sinking in the middle

Jump right in and check your oven's level too. @jordan_young is dead right about the thermometer, but I had a buddy who chased oven temp issues for weeks only to find his range was sitting at a slight tilt. If the oven floor isn't level then your batter pools deeper on one side, the heat doesn't distribute evenly, and you get a lopsided sink every time. Grab a cheap bubble level and set it across the oven rack, then adjust the little legs underneath if they've got them. It's one of those simple fixes people skip because they assume the floor is flat when it usually isn't.

Critique that finally fixed my brake bleed technique

The whole "treat it like a cup of coffee" thing feels a bit dramatic to me. I mean, yeah, you don't want to snap the pedal up, but I've bled brakes dozens of times just pumping and letting it come up naturally without counting Mississippis. Never had air suck back in, never had spongy brakes after. Maybe it's different on some cars, but on my old truck and my Civic it never mattered that much. Feels like one of those tips that gets passed around until everyone thinks it's gospel.

Tried staying in a hostel pod with a shared bathroom and it actually saved me enough for a nice dinner

I gotta disagree with @margaret_jackson73 on the privacy thing. Those pods feel like sleeping in a coffin with a flimsy curtain as your only barrier. I tried one in Berlin and could hear every snore, every bag rustle, every drunk person stumbling in at 3am. The shared bathroom was a nightmare too - someone left a puddle across the whole floor and I almost busted my face. I ended up paying more for a cheap hotel after two nights, so the savings weren't even real.

Saw a custom post frame barn near Lincoln that changed my mind about trusses

That $11k figure sounds about right for a DIY build if you caught lumber at a good time. I'd double check your local building codes before you commit though, some inspectors get picky about scissor truss engineering stamps.

Counted 47 dead food court chairs in one abandoned mall

Counted 83 coat hooks in a laundromat once while waiting for my dryer.
