My uncle told me to never trust a contractor who drives a brand new truck - he was right

Used to think the truck thing was just old man talk. Thought a nice truck showed a guy had his life together. Then I hired a guy with a brand new F-150 to redo my bathroom. He left a hole in my wall and never came back. Uncle Dan was right, beat up truck means they're spending money on tools not payments.

My last boss made me clock out for bathroom breaks, so I quit mid shift on a Friday

@daniel857 hit it right - clocking out for bathroom breaks is straight up illegal in most places. But here's what I'm wondering: how long was this guy's commute? If you're driving 45 minutes each way, I get why sticking it out feels impossible but walking out might screw you harder. Like @daniel857 said, some people straight up can't afford to just leave without something else lined up. Was it worth burning that check for a principle?

Took my family to see 'Battlefield Earth' and I actually liked it

Man, you might be onto something. Used to think this movie was just a complete waste of time, didn't get the hype at all. But catching it with a buddy who kept cracking jokes totally flipped my view. The part where Travolta yells at the alien council and they all just stare at him dumbfounded had us in tears. It's like a bad action movie you watch at 2am, you know? The whole thing is so over the top it loops around to being entertaining instead of terrible.

Threw $300 at a cheap dial indicator set from Amazon and regretted it after 2 weeks on the shop floor

Man, I've been there with those cheap Amazon sets - they look tempting but fall apart fast. @vera_murphy makes a killer point about the stand being the real issue, but I gotta say Starrett indicators aren't quite what they used to be. I'd personally grab a used Mitutoyo instead of a new mid-range Starrett, the build quality difference is still noticeable even at double the price.

Hit 100 feet of weatherstripping before I realized my gap was the real problem

120 inches of foam tape later I found my front door still leaking air from the bottom. Sometimes it's better to step back and look at the whole picture instead of just patching the obvious spots.
