How many hours have we all wasted on stuff like that? That weekend of your life is gone forever, and it was over a bad crimp. The tester is cheap compared to your time. I don't even think of it as extra work anymore, it's just part of the job. Skipping it feels like asking for trouble.

My buddy tried to get it to draw a specific car model, a '78 Trans Am. The first few tries gave us some weird hybrid with bicycle wheels. Then it spit out a perfect one in about five seconds. The grille was even right.

Whoa, that's a deep point. It's like those first, messy projects have the memory of learning in them. Your hands remember every single struggle, every dropped stitch. Later stuff you make might look cleaner, but it doesn't have that same physical story in the yarn. The lumpy scarf literally holds how your brain and fingers first figured it out.
