Talking with a firefighter changed how I think about smoke detector placement

Wait over half of them are in the wrong spot? That's actually insane. Makes you wonder how many houses are just ticking time bombs.

A regular at the cafe told me my coffee was too hot to drink right away

Remember that lawsuit years ago where coffee was so hot it caused third degree burns? My buddy's dad got coffee from a gas station that was basically boiling water. He took one sip and it blistered his mouth instantly, had to go to the ER. Some places serve it dangerously hot, not just "wait a minute" hot.

A client dinner in Austin showed me why we need better partner contracts

See this all the time with companies over promising to get the sale. Internet providers saying "up to" speeds they can't actually deliver, or gyms selling memberships with "unlimited" classes that are always full. They bank on you being too busy to fight it later. It's a shady way to do business that just burns trust.

My uncle told me to always wear a mask even on a quick clean, and I brushed him off.

My grandpa worked in a textile mill his whole life, and he had this raspy cough that never went away. They called it "brown lung" from the cotton dust. He'd tell me it started with just a few bad days, like your creosote cough, and built up over thirty years. That old house dust is no joke. I keep a basic 3M N95 in my tool belt now, the kind with the rubber head straps, because it's light and I forget it's even there.

A client in Boise pointed out my seam lines were too visible on a big Berber job last month...

Focus on the details. That's what separates good work from great work.
