inPSA: That friend who said to learn Python first gave me bad advice
Fair enough, but doesn't three months feel like a lot when you're just starting out and already drowning in new concepts? Starting with Python and then jumping to JavaScript means you've got to unlearn some of the easy syntax tricks you got used to, which can make you question if you're even making progress. It's not that Python ruins you, it's that it gives you a different mental model for things like async or scoping that doesn't always translate cleanly. People act like learning any language is the same, but the way Python handles objects vs JavaScript is pretty different, and that can trip you up for longer than a month.

inFound a tip about endbands in a 1960s manual
Man that's a solid find right there. I've got a beat up copy of "Bookbinding for Beginners" from the 50s and it has a trick for making your own paste that's way better than any store bought stuff. Something about cooking it with a little bit of sugar to keep it from going bad too fast. I tried it last year and haven't bought paste since. Old bookbinders definitely knew their stuff. The 3 station trick on big books makes total sense once you think about it, more points to hold everything tight. I'll have to dig that paste recipe out and try it on my next big rebind project.

inJust realized I was overmixing my pie dough for years
Man @drew965 I feel your pain so hard. The trick that finally fixed it for me was letting the dough rest longer after mixing, like a full 30 minutes before I even touched it. Also, if you're using a recipe with too much water, that can make the outside set up way too fast while the inside still needs more time. Try dropping your oven temp by like 25 degrees too, it gives the crust a better chance to cook through before it burns.

Wait is this really something people care enough about to argue over?
