Call the non-emergency line and get a report number. Document everything with photos and video before you touch anything. They might have left needles or other hazards you don't want to find by surprise.

My old boss made us use a checklist for closing the kitchen. It was a full page long. Half the time we’d just initial the boxes without actually checking because we were rushing. The list gave a false sense of security and we still missed things, like the pilot light on the grill. It became another chore to fake.

What gets me is how this even changes official records. I saw a museum display once using a clearly re-scanned, contrast-boosted version of a famous war photo. The original in their own archive had way more detail in the shadows, which changed the feel of the whole scene. If institutions aren't even checking their own sources, no wonder the public gets the wrong idea.

Drives me nuts when people skip the obvious solution right in front of them. See it all the time with GPS, folks will sit in a traffic jam for an hour instead of taking the parallel road that locals all use. Same thing here, everyone just follows the herd to the same crowded spot. Gotta actually look at the map sometimes.
