I thought that new fiber optic splice kit was just overpriced junk.

Got stuck on a stubborn avionics box in a G650, a connector that just would not seat right. My boss handed me this kit with a special alignment tool and a tiny UV light pen. I figured it was a gimmick, but after fighting it for an hour, I gave it a shot. The tool held the fiber perfectly straight and the UV cure was done in 90 seconds, first try. Who else has been surprised by a tool they thought was useless?

Tried a different climbing hitch on a big maple removal in Springfield

I was taking down a 70 foot sugar maple last week and swapped my usual Blake's hitch for a Knut. The rope was a bit slick from morning dew, but the Knut just locked up solid every time, way more than I expected. Anyone else have a go-to knot for wet conditions?

I used to gatekeep my comic collection and it took a kid at a con to show me

For years I had this rule that nobody touched my long boxes, not even my friends. I thought it was about keeping them mint. Then at Emerald City Comic Con last year, I saw a dad trying to show his son a specific issue, but the kid was scared to even ask the vendor to see it. The dad said, 'It's okay, some people just like to look.' That hit me. I realized I was making comics feel like a museum, not a fun thing to share. My whole attitude was wrong. How do you guys balance keeping your stuff nice with letting other people enjoy it too?

Working the drive-thru showed me the real difference a simple 'thank you' makes

For about two weeks, I started saying 'thank you for your patience' to every car that had to wait more than 30 seconds. Before that, people were mostly quiet or looked annoyed. After, I got way more smiles and 'no problem, thanks' back. It cost me nothing and changed the whole vibe of the shift. Has anyone else tried a small phrase that flipped a bad customer interaction?

My book club in Portland just finished our 100th book and the number felt strange

We started with 'The Great Gatsby' back in 2015 and just hit the century mark with 'Klara and the Sun'. Some of us think hitting 100 books is a big win, a sign we stuck with it. Others feel it's just a number and the real point is the talks we had, not counting pages. What's a book club milestone that made you stop and think?

PSA: The 'free air' can trick for cleaning a laptop fan is a bad idea.

Used a can of compressed air on a dusty ThinkPad T480 fan without holding the blades. Spun it way too fast and now the bearing makes a grinding noise. Anyone know a reliable source for a direct replacement fan, or is this a full heatsink assembly job now?
