Last week I told a coworker my dad's old job advice and he laughed at me

It was Tuesday morning in the break room at the warehouse. I mentioned how my old man always told me to keep my resume updated every 6 months even if you love your job. The guy next to me, Dan, he's like 22, just straight up laughed. Said that advice is from a dead era where you could just hop jobs and nobody cares. I thought about it and honestly he might be right. Three years ago I tried switching roles and it took me 8 months to find anything decent. Has anyone else noticed loyalty in a job just gets you stuck now?

Found a weird trick for writer's block that actually worked for me

I kept staring at blank pages for weeks, couldn't get a single scene down. Then I tried writing my prompt backwards, starting with the last line and working my way to the first. It sounds dumb but I finished a 3 page short story in two days after that. Has anyone else tried flipping the order of their writing process?

Tried that 'read every issue in order' method for Claremont's X-Men run

I started from Giant Size #1 and made it through about 30 issues before I just had to stop. The pacing is so slow when you read them month by month without the hype of a new issue dropping. I learned that skipping around and just reading the big arcs like Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past gives you a way better experience. Has anyone else burned out trying to do a full run like that?

Picked tile over hardwood for my kitchen remodel and honestly I'm kicking myself

I had to choose between luxury vinyl plank and ceramic tile for my kitchen floor. Tile seemed like the no brainer for water resistance. But after 6 months I'm dealing with grout cracking near the dishwasher and my feet hurt every time I stand there more than 10 minutes. The LVP would have been warmer and softer and probably held up fine. Has anyone else regretted their tile choice just because of the comfort factor?

Wasted $150 on a drywall lift that couldn't handle 12-foot boards

Bought a cheap off-brand drywall lift off Amazon 3 months ago thinking I was smart saving cash. First job with 12-foot sheets, the thing tipped sideways on me and snapped a corner off a board. Called the supplier and they said the max rated height was for 8-foot sheets, not 12. Any of you guys tried one of those budget lifts or do you just stick to renting the good ones?

Walked into a diner last week and nobody said a word to each other

I stopped at Mel's on Route 9 for a late breakfast, same place I used to go with my dad in the 90s. Back then you could hear three different conversations from the counter, but last week it was just the sound of forks scraping plates and phones buzzing. Has anyone else noticed how quiet public spaces have gotten?

Vent: The girl who talked about her ex for 45 minutes straight at Chili's

So I went on this date last Saturday with someone I met on an app. We agreed to meet at the Chili's off the highway, nothing fancy but whatever. She starts off normal, ordering a margarita but then after like 10 minutes she brings up her ex. Then she goes into a full story about how they broke up 6 months ago because he wouldn't commit. I tried steering the conversation to movies or her job but she kept circling back to him. After 45 minutes of this I just said I had to go because my stomach hurt. I used to think I could power through bad dates but now I just bail after 20 minutes if it's awful. Has anyone else dealt with someone who clearly wasn't over their ex on a date?

The $60 dinner date who bragged about his Prius mileage for 45 minutes

I went on a date last week with a guy I met on an app. He spent the first 20 minutes telling me his Prius gets 52 miles per gallon and then pulled out a spreadsheet to prove it. I tried changing the subject to movies, but he kept circling back to fuel economy. I ended up making an excuse about my cat being sick and left after the appetizer. Has anyone else had a date who just wouldn't stop talking about one weird thing?

I finally gave up parchment paper liners and just spray the basket directly

Everyone in this group seems to swear by those precut parchment liners for easy cleanup... but I tried them for about 2 weeks and every single time my food came out soggy on the bottom. I figured it was blocking the airflow too much. So I went back to just spraying the basket with avocado oil and shaking halfway through. Food gets way crispier now. It does take a little more scrubbing but nothing a soak cant handle. Has anyone else ditched the liners for better results?

Don't waste money on a 'divorce coach' like I did

I paid this woman $800 for 4 sessions thinking she'd help me navigate the legal stuff. She just read me affirmations and told me to journal. Has anyone actually gotten something useful from one of those or did I just get a bad apple?
