Took the lower paying job with a commute, best call in 5 years
Two offers came in last month. One in Dallas paid $78k but was a 50 minute drive each way. The other was remote from my place in Austin at $72k. I picked the remote one because I ran the numbers on gas, tolls, and car maintenance, roughly $4,200 a year plus my time. So far I get 2 hours back daily and I actually cook dinner now instead of eating drive-thru. Anyone else chosen less money over a brutal commute and regretted or loved it?
Man, I did the same math when I was staring down a 45 minute each way gig and the gas alone was killing me. Two hours back a day is worth way more than 6k in my book, your mileage may vary but I never looked back.
