Had to choose between the food court stairs or the escalator at an abandoned mall in Ohio

The escalator was totally dark and creaking, so I picked the stairs and ended up sliding down a pile of old dropped ceiling tiles halfway down. Anyone else ever take the wrong route in a dead mall and regret it instantly?

I had a 2015 Ford F-150 tailgate with a decent dent, and a guy named Mike who's been doing this since the 70s told me to go with a metal repair panel instead. I didn't listen, slapped bondo on there, and two months later it cracked right down the middle. Has anyone else found that certain panels just don't hold filler well no matter how careful you are?

Had to choose between a shop rebuild and buying a new injection pump for my old 7.3

My 2002 Ford 7.3 started running rough and losing power last week. I got quotes from a local shop in Nashville for a full rebuild at $4,200 or a reman pump from Diesel Care for $1,800. I went with the reman pump since the motor only has 180k miles and it runs smooth now, but I'm worried the injector tips might be next. Anyone else gamble on just the pump instead of the whole deal?

The $60 lens spanner that scratched my Leica flange - waste or worth it?

I bought a cheap stainless spanner from Amazon to adjust a stuck focus ring on a vintage 50mm, and it slipped right off and gouged the brass flange. A repair shop quoted me $150 to fix the scratch and adjust the lens proper. Do you guys go for budget tools and risk it, or pay up for quality to avoid these headaches?

Stopped using the big float for driveways last summer

I used to always grab the 3 foot magnesium float for residential driveways. Figured bigger meant faster and smoother. Then last July I was working a job in Fresno and the slab was cooking off fast in the heat. That big float was pulling too much paste to the surface and I ended up with a dusting mess that looked terrible the next morning. Neighbor on the site told me to switch to a 2 foot float and take my time. I fought him on it for a good 10 minutes but finally tried it. Now I never touch the big one for anything under 30 yards. The finish is way tighter and I don't have to worry about burn spots. Anyone else find that smaller tools save you on repairs down the road?

I always thought variant covers were just a cash grab, but this guy named Mike at Comic Kingdom in Denver showed me his 30 year collection of McFarlane variants. He said each one reminds him of a specific memory or con he went to, and suddenly I got why people hunt them down beyond the art. Neighbor's comment about my raised beds totally changed how I see them

I was out watering my veggies last Saturday when my neighbor Bob from two doors down walked over and said my raised beds looked like 'coffins for plants'. At first I was pretty annoyed, but then he explained how he builds his with a slight curve on the ends to let water drain better. Now I'm staring at my 4 straight cedar boxes and wondering if he's got a point. Anyone else ever get an offhand comment that made you rethink your whole setup?

Spent 2 hours trying to fix a toilet that just needed the handle tightened

Last Saturday I heard that faint running water sound in my bathroom at like 11pm. I figured it was the flapper again so I spent an hour taking the whole thing apart and replacing parts. Then I noticed the handle was wiggly so I tightened the nut behind it with a wrench. Water stopped instantly. Total time wasted was over 2 hours for something that took 30 seconds to fix. Has anyone else ever gone down a rabbit hole on a simple fix like this?

I just read that a standard 2x4 is actually 1.5 inches by 3.5 inches. Found it in a lumber yard pamphlet in Tacoma.
