Had a conversation with my sister after her divorce that made me rethink my whole 'you should date around' advice
She told me 'I don't need more options, I need someone who shows up at 2am when my car breaks down' and it hit me different because I've been telling her to play the field for 6 months now, so has anyone else realized they were giving bad advice just because it worked for them?

Did you ever stop and think maybe she doesn't want a lineup, she wants a backup plan that actually shows up? I used to tell my friend to date multiple people too, but when her mom got sick she just needed one person to bring her soup. Sometimes we push what worked for us and forget other people just want stability, not options.

Crack a joke about my own dating history ... I once had a backup plan that was so much of a backup plan he forgot to show up to my birthday party. So I get it, stability over options any day. But then again, I also told my friend to date around and ended up alone on New Years watching her eat soup with her new boyfriend. So maybe I'm not the best person to give advice on this stuff...
