Quit fighting my stucco cracks, finally tried the backer rod trick

Right, because EVERYONE loves spending a Saturday morning excavating their own foundation like they're on some kind of DIY archeology dig. Three winters is impressive though, that's basically a lifetime in crack-repair years. Maybe I should stop pretending my caulk gun is decorative and actually try this.

That herb festival in Asheville changed how I buy seedlings

That trick works until you grab a plant that smells fine but has spider mites hiding underneath. Then you're doing the whole quarantine dance with every new purchase anyway. Guess that's the real lesson, check the undersides of the leaves before you trust the sniff test.

Hot take: I thought the 1969 moon landing footage was faked until I found the actual transmission logs last month

Matching up the telemetry data with the video timestamps is what got me too, but I went the other direction. I started with the lunar module's ascent stage engine burn and worked backwards from the known fuel consumption rates. The numbers line up so cleanly that you'd have to fake about 200 separate data streams at once, plus the ground stations in three different countries all recording the same thing independently. That's way more effort than just actually going to the moon. The signal delay alone, about 1.3 seconds each way, is baked into the audio in a way that's nearly impossible to reproduce with 1960s tech. Once you see the raw logs, the conspiracy theories just look like people who never bothered to check the math.

My leak test on a big tank saved me a full redo last week

Dye test finds cracks, but pressure test checks if the whole weld actually holds under real load.

Switched to a fluid extractor for oil changes, wish I did it sooner

Honestly that bit about 15 minutes with zero drips got me. My buddy runs a shop down in Waco and he swore by extractors for years. Told me one Friday he pulled the tube on a dually that had sat overnight, and it popped out coated in old oil like a slipped snake. He said that was the day he stopped trusting the drain plug entirely, even on his own F-150. Now he does every oil change with a tube and a pump, and he's never looked back.
