PSA: The way they did the spines at the Boston Library's conservation lab changed my whole approach
I saw them using a specific 2mm spacer for rounding that I'd never considered, and my backs have been way cleaner since. Anyone else pick up a small trick that just clicked from seeing it done somewhere specific?

My old teacher used a specific 1/8 inch awl for punching sewing holes. I always used whatever was sharp. Seeing him pick that exact tool made me realize the hole size and clean edge matter as much as the placement. It stopped the thread from catching and made the whole section lie flat. That one choice fixed a problem I didn't even know I had.

That 2mm spacer trick is a perfect example of seeing the right tool for the job. I learned a similar thing about paste consistency from a local binder's Instagram story. Sometimes you just need to watch the process to understand the why behind a step.

Funny how the smallest detail can change everything, right? Saw a video once where someone used a bone folder to set a hinge in a totally different way, just a slight angle shift. It made me realize I'd been fighting the material for years. Those little process videos can be like a secret handshake for getting it right.
