Spent 4 hours trying to get a sourdough starter going in my new apartment

My old starter was perfect, but I moved to a place in Denver and the tap water here just killed it. I tried bottled, filtered, everything. Finally got a tip to leave tap water out for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate, and that did the trick after three failed attempts. Anyone else in a high-altitude or weird water city have starter tips?

My starter in Phoenix was a total diva about the water hardness. Had to start using that cheap grocery store spring water, the stuff in the big jugs. Felt ridiculous buying water just for bread, but it worked. Nancy524 is right, the "leave it out" trick sounds like an old wives tale but it's legit science. My third attempt looked like pancake batter until I switched.

Leaving water out" I thought was silly but it totally works.

Yeah my buddy in Austin had the same issue with his tap water. He started leaving a jug on the counter for a day before baking and his loaves finally stopped being so flat lol.
