inJust realized I spent $300 on the wrong UPS because I didn't check the plug type
Rewiring my whole circuit" - man that hits home. I swear half the stuff I buy lately has some weird hidden catch like that. It's like nothing is just straightforward anymore. You think you're getting a deal and then bam, you need a special adapter or some extra part you didn't know existed. This happens to me all the time with basic stuff too, not just electronics. It's like everything is designed to make you do one more trip to the store or spend another twenty bucks. I've started just assuming any used deal has a catch like this built in.

inSaw something wild at a big solar farm in Nevada last weekend
Hey I totally get where you're coming from but honestly it's a real bummer to see those panels just sitting there caked in dust. It's like watching money and clean energy slip away for no good reason. Mila said 80% vs 50% isn't a crisis but every little bit adds up when we're trying to ditch fossil fuels you know? And in a drought every drop of water counts too so I feel stuck just like you. It's rough when the best choice means something has to give either way.

inWarning: I used to trust my phone's GPS for hiking trails until last Sunday on Mount Tam
Oh man, I gotta push back on this a little. Paper maps are great for backup but I've had way more close calls trying to read a soggy map in the rain than I've had with GPS. Lost more time fumbling with a compass than I ever did following a bad shortcut.

inThat night at Big Bend changed how I pack gear
Big Bend got me too, actually. That same cold front hit me a few years back and I learned the hard way that those ratings are more like "you won't die" than "you'll be comfortable." What really helped me was getting a cheap foam pad to put under my regular pad - that ground cold just sucks the warmth right out of you. Also started bringing a Nalgene bottle with hot water wrapped in a sock (you know, the old trick) to stuff in my bag at night. Made a huge difference for maybe 10 bucks total.

inDropped $150 on a pair of clippers that died in 6 months
Ngl @hannahw30 my neighbor's old Wahl from the 90s still cuts like butter but my new one crapped out too.
