I think splitting the bill on a first date is totally fine
Met someone at The Broken Egg in Nashville last Saturday and when the check came she just stared at me. I said let's split it and she got all quiet. I don't get why people act like the guy has to pay for everything, it's 2024 and we both have jobs. Has anyone else had a date get weird over splitting?

Stared at the check? That's wild. Like, what did she expect you to just grab it without saying a word (I guess some people are raised that way, but still)? I had a date once who literally pushed the bill back across the table at me like it was on fire, which was way more awkward than just splitting it. It's not like you were at some fancy steakhouse, you were at The Broken Egg (which is solid, by the way, their biscuits are legit). If she got quiet over a simple split, that's a red flag honestly, who wants to be with someone who can't even handle a basic conversation about money? You dodged a bullet, my friend, no need to feel bad about it.

Ha! I'd probably stare at the check too if I forgot my wallet that day.

Hey @sagep19, ever hear about my friend whose date pulled out a calculator to split a $12 breakfast tab down to the penny?

A date who pushed the bill back like it was on fire? That's a whole new level of awkward, I can't even picture that without cringing. At least you got a funny story out of it, right? Sounds way more memorable than a boring split check situation.
