Hit 500 logged dives last month but still feel like a greenhorn

The ocean finds new ways to humble you every time" is the nicest way I've ever heard someone say they looked like a confused seal for five minutes. I hit dive 300 with a fancy new drysuit and spent a whole minute trying to inflate my BCD with the dump valve button. Keeps you humble alright, mostly by making you question if you've ever actually learned anything at all.

TIL dry-aging a primal cut in my home fridge works way better than I thought

yeah ive been doing this for about 2 years now with a old wine fridge i converted. i run it at 32-33F and humidity at 80% with a cheap inkbird controller and a ultrasonic mister. the key is having a fan moving air inside or youll get mold spots on the pellicle. i usually go 35-40 days on strip loins and ive seen closer to 20% trim loss but man that beefy taste is worth it. one thing people mess up is not trimming off all the pellicle before slicing or it tastes like sour gym socks. also make sure your fridge doesnt freeze the meat or the enzymes stop working and you just end up with expensive freezer burn.

My rain barrel overflow pipe snapped off last night during that big storm

Had the exact same thing happen to me two summers ago during a heavy downpour. That plastic overflow fitting just shattered like glass and I ended up with a muddy mess right against my house's foundation. Had to spend the next day digging a little trench to redirect the water away. I switched to brass fittings after that and they've held up through some serious storms without any trouble. Also want to second what james_singh7 said about those cheap plastic downspout brackets, mine snapped right off in a moderate wind. Total waste of money.

Blew a hole straight through my forge firepot after 3 years of using it wrong

Kinda wonder if folks just get too worried about cracking a brake drum. I've seen guys run them till they're damn near glowing white and they still hold together with some basic patching. The real issue is if it starts warping or throwing sparks, then yeah maybe worry. But a little crack? Just weld it up and keep going, most of us aren't running forges hot enough to cause a real failure anyway. What's your take on when it's actually dangerous?

Spent 3 hours trying to fix a crooked cabinet door before I realized the hinge was bent

Coulda been worse, you coulda bent the hinge yourself trying to fix it... like I did once.
