Did you try reading it out loud after? When I had to write a story using only one syllable words as a joke it came out sounding like a drunk caveman. But after a few tries I started finding ways to make the rhythm work and it actually made my regular writing tighter. The 50 word thing sounds like it forces you to cut everything that isn't absolutely necessary. Maybe try keeping some chapters at 50 and letting others go longer, see if you can get a feel for what really needs to stay.

Oh man, I used to be that guy who'd clown on people for hyping up "1000 cover" nights too, but this post actually changed my mind. Something about hitting that number without a single ticket error or re-fire is just different, it's like the kitchen gods smiled on you for one shift. Respect for pulling that off at a private party, those are usually the nights where everything goes sideways for no reason.

Watched my buddy @thomas.tyler do the exact same thing on his Accord. I remember him pouring in a whole extra quart 'cause he thought the engine sounded "thirsty." Then his car started smoking like a barbecue pit on the interstate. He had to pull over and call his dad, who just sighed into the phone for a solid 30 seconds before showing up with a tow strap. Took me way too long to learn that more oil does not equal more better.
