Just learned that a single loose screw on a pitot tube can throw off airspeed by 12 knots on a 737

I was reading through an old NTSB report from 2019 (site was down due to weather, had some time to kill in the truck) and found this case where a missing screw on the pitot static port caused a 12 knot error at cruise. Never would have thought something that small could mess with the numbers that much. Now I'm triple checking every screw on every probe I touch. Has anyone else run into a similar surprise from a tiny defect like that?

Guidebook said take the northern fork - that was a lie

I hiked the Lost Coast Trail in California last summer. Got this fancy guidebook from REI. Said the northern fork at mile 12 was shorter and had better views. Took it. Big mistake. The trail disappeared after two miles. Had to scramble over wet rocks for three hours with a 40 pound pack. Tide almost cut me off twice. Finally found the main trail again near dark. That northern fork added like 6 miles. Guidebook author must have hiked it in dry weather. Anyone else find a guidebook route that was just flat out wrong?

Glue-down vs. stretch-in for residential living rooms - which do you swear by?

I just finished a 12x15 living room in a split level and went with glue-down because the customer had tile downstairs below. It came out flat and solid, but man, the cleanup took forever. Has anyone else had better luck with stretch-in on upper floors or do you stick with glue for good?

Swapped out my all-purpose flour for bread flour in my sourdough and never looked back

For about 8 months I was using just regular AP flour from the store. My starter was fine but my loaves always came out flat and gummy inside. Finally read a post on here about gluten content and tried bread flour on a whim. The difference was night and day - better rise, better crust, and the crumb actually opened up. Switched over in February this year and now I keep a 50 lb bag of King Arthur bread flour in the pantry. Anybody else have a single ingredient change that totally shifted their baking game?

I used to use a 22 oz Estwing for all my rough framing, but after 8 months of constant wrist pain I swapped to a 16 oz Stiletto titanium. The weight drop cut my swing fatigue by at least half and I can actually feel the studs better now. Anyone else notice a big difference going from steel to titanium in their tool bag?

Switched from wetnotes to a whiteboard slate 8 years ago

Back in 2016 I was using those small wetnotes you clip to your wrist. Kept losing the pencil underwater and the paper got useless after one dive. Buddy of mine told me to just get a simple whiteboard slate from the hardware store for 8 bucks. Been using the same one ever since, just gotta remember to rough up the surface with sandpaper so the marker actually sticks. It holds up fine on salvage jobs and inspection dives. Anyone else still using old school slates or did everyone move to digital?

Last week I made wings in the air fryer again and they came out soggy and gross. I was cramming like 12 wings in there at 375 for 20 minutes. Turns out I needed to space them out more and cook at 400 for 25 minutes, flipping halfway. Anyone else have a go-to temp and time for wings that works every time?

Just hit 1000 bottle openers forged and I never expected to care that much

I was counting up my orders last night for my shop inventory and realized I passed 1,000 bottle openers made over the last 3 years. I mean, it's such a simple little project, right? But seeing that number on paper made me stop and think about all the weekends I spent at the anvil just banging out these tiny things. Has anyone else been surprised by a milestone like this with their work? What was your unexpected number?
