After I slipped and cracked my phone screen last Tuesday trying to mop with too much water, I grabbed a big pack of cellulose sponges for $8 and now I just damp mop by hand and the floors look way better with zero streaks or bubbles.
My neighbor convinced me to install a Rain Bird setup with smart controllers, but after two summers I've spent more on repairs and winterizing than I'd ever save on water bills. Anyone else find these systems more trouble than they're worth in Toronto's climate?
My dad came over last weekend while I was adding attic insulation and insisted I should tear out the old blown-in stuff first because it might have moisture issues, even though it looked fine to me. He said his friend in Mississauga found black mold after just piling new insulation on top last year and had to rip it all out anyway. Has anyone here actually had problems from layering new insulation over old in a Toronto home?
I walked past a bungalow on Logan Ave that sold for $520k in March and by mid April it was listed for $799k with just new paint and kitchen counters. The buyer never even fixed the cracked driveway or the old furnace that I know was rusting out from the last inspection. How do you even compete with flippers when they're taking shortcuts that'll cost the next family thousands down the road?
Last week I finally tore out the drywall in my basement corner after always noticing a musty smell during rain. I pulled off the insulation and found a crack about 2 feet long with water stains running down the concrete. Turns out my house has a grading issue on the north side where the soil settled over time. Cost me $400 for a waterproofing guy to seal it and regrade the dirt. Has anyone else dealt with hidden leaks that took forever to track down?
Woke up to a nice puddle in my living room after last night's storm. Can anyone recommend a good roofing company in Toronto? Need someone to come out ASAP for a roof repair before the next rainfall.
