Warning: I miss when gadget reviews talked about how long things last

Looking back at old magazine reviews from the 90s, I noticed they always checked if a gadget could take a beating. Nowadays, most reviews I read skip that part and just list features, which I think is a big mistake. Am I crazy for wanting to know if my new toy will survive a drop on the carpet?

Remember when remotes had that thick rubbery coating? My old DVD player remote survived being thrown by toddlers and soaked in juice. Now my fancy TV remote's plastic feels cheap and the buttons gave out after two years. Reviews never warn you about that stuff.

Totally get that! My old MP3 player lasted ten years because a review mentioned its tough case. Now I specifically search for "durability test" videos before buying anything.

Wow, guess that's one way to make sure your new gadget survives being sat on by an elephant.
