My fabric dye project went totally wrong last night

I was trying to dye a plain cotton jacket a deep purple for a new design idea. I followed the bottle instructions, used the right amount of dye, and left it in the pot for 45 minutes like it said. When I pulled it out, it was this weird, splotchy gray with a few purple spots! I think my water might have been too hot, even though I checked it. Has anyone else had a dye job fail like this and managed to fix it? I really don't want to scrap the whole jacket.

Honestly sounds like a cool distressed look to me. Gray with purple spots could be a whole vibe if you roll with it. Not every mess up is a total loss.
