Warning: I think everyone's wrong about using 3D models for every single detail

Honestly, I was working on a set of foundation plans for a custom house in Bend last year. The architect's 3D model had every rebar called out in 3D, which looked cool but crashed my system three times trying to generate the sections. Tbh, I finally just traced over the 2D PDF for the critical details and modeled only the complex footing intersections. It saved me 5 hours that week. Ngl, sometimes a hybrid approach is faster than a full 3D workflow. Has anyone else found that over-modeling can actually slow a project down?

Ugh, totally feel that. My old firm insisted on modeling every pipe hanger and it was such a time sink. A little 2D tracing for the simple stuff is just smart.

Wait they made you model every single hanger? That's insane, what a huge waste of time. I can't believe a firm would actually stick to that rule. Did they ever explain why they needed that level of detail for something so basic? How did you even get any real work done?
