I thought those new digital protractors were just a gimmick until I had to lay out a complex roof on a job in Boise last month.

Complex roof" is the key phrase there. I'm still using the old school kind and my cuts look like a toddler did them.

So what was it about that newer saw that made the big difference? Was it just sharper, or did it have a different kind of guide or something? Trying to figure out if it's worth the upgrade for those tricky angles.

Looks like a toddler did them" is exactly how I felt about my own work for years. I was convinced the old tools were fine if you just had enough skill. Then I helped a friend with a real complicated valley on his place and borrowed his newer saw. The difference wasn't just a little bit better, it was night and day. It made me realize the right tool for a tricky job isn't a cheat, it's just smart.
