Tried to swap a single faucet cartridge and ended up rebuilding half the bathroom

What I thought was a 20 minute fix turned into a 6 hour ordeal because the old cartridge basically disintegrated inside the valve, and then the shutoff under the sink started leaking when I touched it. Has anyone else had a simple repair snowball into a full Saturday project?

Oh man, I feel your pain. It's like the plumbing gods see you coming with a tool in hand and decide to mess with you. I once went in to fix a slow drain and ended up replacing half the sink pipes (plus a new faucet I didn't plan on buying).

Plumbing gods" is right, man. I swear they wait until you're elbow-deep in gross water before they reveal the real issue. @thomas.tyler, one time I just wanted to switch out a shower head and somehow ended up having to cut open the wall behind the tile (still not sure how that happened).

@thomas.yler, it's just a shower head. A trip to the hardware store and twenty minutes max. You're making it sound like brain surgery.
