My brother gave me terrible divorce advice that somehow worked

My brother told me to "just ghost her like a bad Tinder date" after she filed. I ignored him for 3 months, then got so sick of mediation that I tried it for a week. She called demanding to know where I was, we actually talked without lawyers for the first time, and got the whole thing settled in 2 days. Has anyone else gotten advice from a family member that you thought was junk but actually helped?

Used to roll my eyes at my mom's advice but now I call her first before making any big decision.

Oh man, same thing happened with me and my dad! I used to just nod and ignore everything he said, thought I knew better. Then I got into credit card debt real bad right after college and he bailed me out without a word of judgment. Now I run every job offer or big purchase by him first. He's got this way of seeing around corners I can't see. It's like they've already lived through all the mistakes we're about to make...

Ugh seriously though! People act like older relatives don't get modern problems but they've literally been through every version of dumb human drama. My grandma told me to "stop overthinking my boyfriend's texts and just ask him what he meant" and I was like that's too direct. But I tried it and we actually sorted stuff out in five minutes instead of me spiraling for days. It's wild how simple advice from someone who doesn't care about looking cool can cut through all the nonsense. Sometimes the corniest advice hits different because it's not trying to be clever, it's just real.
