Tried the whole 'let them pick the place' approach vs planning it myself. Total disaster.
I let this girl from Bumble choose the restaurant for our first date last Friday in Austin. She picked some overpriced fusion place downtown where the lighting was so dim I could barely see her face. My go-to is a solid Mexican spot on East 6th where I know the menu and the margaritas are $8. Never letting someone else pick again. Anyone else had better luck taking control of the date plans?

Yeah @the_jason, I mean I guess I was hoping the dim lighting would hide how awkward I am, but it just made the whole thing a blurry mess.

Oh man, that's exactly what happened to me a couple months ago. I let this girl pick and she chose this tiny Italian spot in a strip mall where the pasta was somehow both undercooked AND mushy at the same time. My go-to burger joint never lets me down but no, I had to be open minded. I ended up having to stop for tacos on the way home because I was still hungry. Never again is right, I'm the one who knows what's good in my city and I'm sticking with that from now on.

Wait, the lighting was so dim you couldn't even see her face?! That's wild, man. I would've just walked out and suggested that Mexican spot halfway through the meal.
