The lady who swore her expired coupon was a 'contract'
I work at a grocery store in Phoenix, and last week a customer tried to use a coupon that expired in 2019. She said, and I quote, 'This is a binding agreement between me and the store.' I told her it's literally a piece of paper with a date on it, but she demanded a manager. The manager backed me up, and she just stood there silent for like 30 seconds before walking away. Has anyone else had a customer treat a coupon like a legal document?

Read an article saying some people actually believe coupons are legally binding, @ben206, and I still can't wrap my head around that.

Argue the other side then. A coupon is just an offer, not a contract. You can't hold a store to something they printed months ago when the date clearly says it expired.

but honestly i can kind of see her point. if these companies print coupons with all that tiny fine print, it is basically them agreeing to give you a discount under certain terms. she might have been wrong about the date part, but the store not honoring it does feel a bit like they are backing out of a deal they started.
