Finally saw what happens when I stop double-checking my foils
For 8 years I have always re-wrapped every single foil section before processing, thinking it was necessary. Last month I timed myself on two identical bleach jobs and just trusted my original placement on one of them, plus a quick press down with my palm. The difference in the final lift was honestly zero, but I saved about 12 minutes per full head. My coworker watched me do it and said, "you looked nervous the whole time" and she was right. Has anyone else tested skipping the re-check step or do you swear by the extra pass for patchy clients?
How long did it take before you stopped feeling that nervous twitch though? I did the same test about two years back after a stylist friend told me she never rechecks and I spent the whole service hovering over that one section like it was gonna explode. The thing that got me over it was figuring out where the recheck actually matters, which for me is only the hairline and any spot where the foil slipped when I folded it. Everything else holds fine if you got clean sections and decent tension on the wrap. For patchy clients I still do a quick tap test with my fingers instead of a full rewrap, takes like 5 seconds and catches the loose ones.
Took me about 6 months before I could walk away from the chair during processing without that pit in my stomach, so I feel you @hayden_butler27. The tap test thing is smart though, might steal that for my patchy regulars.
